The socio-educational officer participates in the care and supervision of infants, children, and young people in accordance with the National Reference Framework for Non-formal Education of Children and Youth, as applied in all structures benefiting from the chèque-service accueil system.

- education and care establishments for children (maisons relais, day centres or school hostels, crèches, mini-crèches);
- residential homes for children and adolescents.
Missions within the educational system
- observe children of different ages and recognise their needs;
- look gently after infants;
- supporting the development of (young) children and helping to create a space where they can experiment freely and flourish.
Studies
The training leading to the Diplôme d’aptitude professionnelle (DAP) Agent socio-pédagogique lasts three years, full-time, and takes place at the school. At the heart of this training are five four- to six-week placements, giving an insight into working with children.
For adult training, an apprenticeship contract in a childcare facility is required. Adult apprentices spend two days at school and three days at the training company.
