Promotion of children's rights

The Convention on the Rights of the Child has become the pillar of international collaboration to promote the protection of children and to safeguard their well-being. Through the Service des droits de l’enfant (department for children's rights), the Ministry of Education, Children and Youth coordinates the implementation of the International Convention on the Rights of the Child between the various ministries, institutions and bodies responsible for children's rights.

The Service des droits de l’enfant also participates in inter-ministerial consultations and in the work of international bodies that follow up on international conventions ratified by Luxembourg and the exchange of good practices, which can be transposed at national level.

In partnership with private organisations, it develops guidelines, reference documents, actions and awareness-raising campaigns.

Its action is based on the four fundamental principles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child:

  • non-discrimination;
  • best interests of the child;
  • right to survival and development;
  • right to participation.
