A graduate educator (éducateur gradué) is a social education worker whose objective is to develop a project to help a person or a group. According to the intended audience and the setting for the intervention, they can provide creative, cultural, sports, relaxation, social-integration or even work activities. An educator’s practice is at the interface between several other disciplines: medical, psychological, social, cultural, legal, pedagogical. They operate on the lines between these sectors.
Workplaces
- primary education (Kindergarten, ESEB);
- secondary education (socio-educational services, SePAS, support teams for pupils with special needs);
- Centre psycho-social et d'accompagnement scolaires (CePAS);
- education and care establishments for children (maisons relais, parental assistants, day centres or school hostels, crèches, mini-crèches);
- youth centres, socio-familiar and educational boarding schools:
- centres of expertise in specialised educational psychology.
Missions
- welcoming, supervising and supporting groups of children or young people;
- supporting children in their development;
- developing and implementing socio-educational projects;
- proposing and carrying out educational and recreational activities;
- supervising people to teach them to take charge of their own lives;
- working with educational, social, administrative and political bodies to facilitate the integration of people in difficulty.
Studies
- university degree in education or social sciences;
- professional bachelor's degree in social and educational sciences;
- specialised bachelor's degree (e.g. in child pedagogy).

The Maison de l'orientation is a government agency that brings together in one place public players active in the field of educational and vocational guidance. In its "guidance" area, citizens can take advantage of a first meeting without appointment and anonymously, all year round (also during school holidays).
The mengstudien.lu portal
The mengstudien.lu website of the Ministry of Research and Higher Education (MESR) is aimed at high school and university students who wish to pursue higher education, but also at anyone who wants to return to higher education. You will find information on:
- higher education in Luxembourg and abroad, admission requirements and university enrolment procedures, etc.;
- State financial aid for higher education (MESR financial aid department);
- procedures for entering a regulated profession;
