Currently there is no legal framework in Luxembourg to officially carry out a search of one's origins. Two bills address the right to know one’s origins, as recognised by the International convention on the rights of the child :
- bill n° 7674 on the organisation of access to one’s origins in the context of adoption or medically assisted reproduction with third donors ;
- bill n° 6568A on the reform of the law of parentage, which introduces the principle of access to one's origins and guidance and support for people who are looking for their biological parent.
The bill provides that the minister competent for children's rights will be able to apply the provisions on the access to the child's origins. The same minister also has to provide psycho-social support in this field.
