For whom?
Children are said to have high potential (HP) when they have the potential to perform significantly above the average of children and young people of their age in one or more areas.
At the international level, the definition of high potential is mainly based on the intellectual quotient (IQ). To determine high potential, an IQ threshold of 130 is usually applied.
The Centre pour enfants et jeunes à haut potentiel (CEJHP) (Centre for children and young people with high potential) created by the law of 20 July 2018 supports children and young people in developing their personality, promoting their personal development and maximising their potential at school level.
It is also aimed at parents of children and young people as well as at education professionals.
How?
For students, the CEJHP provides different possibilities, adapted to individual needs :
- specialised diagnosis ;
- development of a plan to valorise high potential ;
- adaptation of schooling duration;
- adaptation of pedagogical and didactic practices in the classroom ;
- pull-out offer (extended offer outside the classroom) ;
- individual follow-up by resource teachers for the valorisation of high potential (ER-VHP) ;
- individual or group support, if necessary, by a psychologist, pedagogue or psychomotor therapist ;
- student exchange platform.
To their parents, it offers :
- information and awareness-raising ;
- advice and guidance ;
- exchange platform.
To education professionals, it offers :
- information and awareness-raising ;
- advice and recommendations ;
- support and coaching ;
- training ;
- exchange platform.
The CEJHP includes a documentation centre accessible to any interested person.
By whom?
The CEJHP team consists of :
- a management ;
- resource teachers (ER-VHP) of elementary and secondary education ;
- psychologists ;
- teachers ;
- psychomotor therapists ;
- administrative staff.
