Below you will find useful information about the start of the 2026/2027 school year.
Dates of the start of the new school year
Tuesday 1 September 2026:
- Classes for pupils at the Deutsch-Luxemburgisches Schengen-Lyzeum begin.
Tuesday 15 September 2026:
- Pupils go (back) to elementary school.
- Exam resits are organised at public secondary schools offering classical and general secondary education.
Wednesday 16 September 2026:
- 7e pupils in classical and general secondary education are welcomed.
Thursday 17 September 2026:
- Classes for pupils in all other grades of classical and general education start again.
Summerschool 2026
As in previous years, public schools will offer optional and free catch-up lessons as part of the Summerschool programme.
The 2026 Summerschool will take place:
- from 1 to 11 September 2026 in elementary education;
- from 31 August to 11 September 2026 in secondary education.
The lessons will be based on thematic modules developed, for each subject and each year group, by the Ministry’s Service de coordination de la recherche et de l’innovation pédagogiques et technologiques (SCRIPT). Pupils can access these resources via their IAM on the www.summerschool.lu platform.
The Summerschool, which has been running since 2020, is part of the support measures put in place by the Ministry of Education, Children and Youth for pupils experiencing academic difficulties or falling behind in school.

Information for the first few days of the new school year
Tuesday 15 September 2026:
- Exam resits: no school transport is provided, with the exception of the international schools’ primary schools.
Wednesday 16 September 2026:
- Welcoming of 7e pupils: no school transport is provided, with the exception of certain regional secondary schools.
Thursday 17 September 2026:
- First day of school for all pupils: regular school transport services will operate.

“Bichermaart goes Jugendmaart”
This year, the traditional Bichermaart is organised by the Conférence nationale des élèves du Luxembourg (CNEL) with the support of Luxembourg City’s Service jeunesse under the name Bichermaart goes Jugendmaart. The event will be held on Saturday 12 September 2026 from 11:00 to 17:00 at Place d’Armes in Luxembourg City.
Pupils will be able to sell school supplies, books, clothes and any other items they don’t need anymore.
